Lightbulb How to install an aftermarket deck while using the stock Mach 460 Amps & Speakers

EDIT: This is a write-up I wrote a long time ago and have since lost a couple of original screen shots that I made. I will try and find them and add them to complete the write-up. I have added the screen shot of the adapter and voltage regulator wiring diagram.

*Click here to see the exact Scosche Factory System Integration Adapter that I purchased for this project.

*The aftermarket cd/radio I am using this adapter with is a Sony CDX-MP40 MP3 deck.

How to install an aftermarket deck while utilizing the stock Mach 460 Amps & Speakers. This install took me about 1 hour start to finish. If you take your time and do it right it's not that difficult at all.

Note: This install may not work at all on '03 - '04 models due to a change in the deck and amp interface. 2003 & up models may need a FDK9 car stereo wiring harness.

#1 - You will need a SCOSCHE OEA-4 FACTORY AMP INTERFACE ADAPTER w/OEA-4 HARNESS. A SCOSCHE FAI-3A will also work in most cases.

#2 - You will need a 5 Volt Fixed Voltage Regulator (Radio Shack #276-1770) to eliminate amplifier pop when you turn the system on. You will install this between the deck and the scosche adapter on the Amp REM Wire (Amp Remote Turn-on wire it's usually blue or blue/white - some brands may vary) Why: Because the Ford Mach deck in most cases uses a 5V amp signaling voltage to turn on the amps and most the aftermarket decks use a 12V amp signaling voltage and that will cause that annoying pop when you turn on the deck.

#3 - You will need to properly adjust the output level gain controls after the install to get it to sound right. This is an important step, so take your time and do it right. Note: There will not be a great deal of room to work with inside that dash recess after installing the scosche adapter+deck. So, becareful and don't just force it back when mounting the deck+adapter.

#4 - I have included 3 screen shots to better facilitate the installation process.

1st screen shot is a wiring illustration. (still trying to find my original screen shot)

2nd screen shot is a how to adjust the output level & wire color code chart. (still trying to find my original screen shot)

3rd screenshot is a wiring how to for the voltage regulator.

I pulled my 6 Disc CD Changer out and put in an indash (Not pop-out) DVD player and then added 7" visor monitors.

Here is my dash all torn out:

theyre illegal in my area which is why theyre not seen often around here... with the way they have our laws written... you cant have any tv/device's screen within viewing area of the driver.. (cept things like them GPS/sctlivewire things like that)... theyve gotten the laws written to the point its almost completely illegal to do any sort of modding to your rides...

Well right after the install I deployed to Tyndall AFB, Florida and they are illegal down there as well but I have SC plates so no biggie. I listen to movies all the time on my journeys around the country.

I guess Tim we should move all the posts to a new thread about Audio/Visual mods to your car. Sorry for the takeover.

Thanks for the info sir! As far as the screen shots the most important one is up there which is the one about wiring the 5 volt regulator. Wiring up with radio harness to the maching adapter is just a matter of simply matchin all the color wires and some common sense. I installed the regulator this morning and everything is perfect! The mach460 does sound awsome! I installed a pioneer 590IB with the ipod connector and everything sounds so good! As far as my question about incasing the regulator in somehting to prevent shorting, I just wrapped it with some electrical tape, and works like a charm. Thanks for all the great info, anyone else that has any question please feel free to PM me or ask Tim.

yeah its working perfect, i already drew up some plans for a 10 inch sub in a ported 1.5 Ft^3 box tuned at 34 htz that should fit just perfect under the amp rack. Im using an aero port, so construction should be a breeze! I will start probably this weekend!

that sounds great. you should create a thread in the car audio and alarms forum and post pictures of your construction and install. that would make for a great thread.

good luck!

I have had quite a few questions recently regarding where to purchase the Scosche OAE-4 Adapter.

I purchased it through Crutchfield. If you purchase it through them they include the Mach 460 quick connect harnesses that really simplify the installation process.

This is exactly what I purchased for my install. And I haven't had a single problem in the last 6 or so years since I did the install. The system sounds great and I have no popping or static. If you install it correctly then it works near flawlessly. Some people leave negative reviews on this adapter and it's because they didn't wire it correctly or use a regulator. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...ce&i=142C4FDK5
